Keep in mind that the manifold sucks (vacuum) so the dirty air goes into the manifold and into the combustion process. Be sure to put a restrictor of about 0.040 " diameter in the manifold port. You can just fabricate one using a pipe fitting soldered closed and drill a 0.040" hole down the middle. On the other (Inlet) fitting on the distributor you can just screw in a rear axle vent valve if you don't plan on playing in deep water with the truck. Or you can run a tube from that port on the distributor to your air cleaner.

They have 1/8" pipe threads.

Copied these from TM 9-8030. A lot of early features are shown, but you can get some idea of where vent lines ran. You can see where the lines bend toward the back of the engine to get around the lifting eye and then extend to the air cleaner elbow.

Great pictures, Carter. I have been trying to work my way through the manuels, but sometimes it gets a bit frustrating when they are all saved on the computer and you have to scroll constantly.

I've got my vent cap, bought the very small .040 drill bit today that fits into a dremel tool from a hobby store today and I hope to fabricate the improvised line to the intake manifold tomorrow. It will hopefully due until I can procure all of the necessary elements to bring the air filter/carburetor setup back to original specs.

Hopefully all will work well...if not, I'll be back for advice!
