Nice transformation! The natural wood adds a great contrast to the green. I'm not a fan of painting wood but wouldn't it have been paint? I'll probably go the same route with natural wood and a clear sealer on it.

I'm not a big fan of painting wood, either. My house is old and has really nice woodwork throughout. Some toopid idjit painted most (but not all) of it many years ago, and my wife and I spent the first couple of years here stripping and refinishing it. Not fun, but it looks much better now!

In the case of our military trucks, the wood was painted for two reasons. The first was for uniformity. The second was for ease of maintenance. It's much easier to touch up a chip or gouge with paint than it would be to refinish a varnished surface. (Remember that polyurethane did not exist when our trucks were built. Shellac and spar varnish were the only options other than paint and did not hold up as well.)

I agree. I redid my rotted wood with red oak (at the time I couldn't get white oak). SO I sealed it with exterior polyurethane - wow the grain stood out so nice I couldn't bear to paint over it. So I finished it with clear Poly - so to the purist sorry bit my wood is not green and not flat but shiny beautiful clear red wood grain. I like it - in this case, to each his own - LOL
