Hmm... so you have to take the spindle nut off and bolt the large plate to the inside of the rear cross member, thread the shaft through the hole from the outside and put the spindle nut back on?

The grease fitting must face downward then?

I better do all this before I put the bed back on...

Looks to me that the spacer and plate are assembled together per Rick's direction above. How the thing is attached is not clear to me yet either.
