Thanks, that's what I was thinking. that's why the handle was just laying there. I primed the pump with the starter. It took about five attempts,with cooling down stops in between

Well its running again repalced the mechanical pump and it fired right up sputtered for a few seconds and then smoothed out nice. After looking at it I was just curious what the arm on the pump connects to inside the block? It made me think how fast and haw many times it must pump during operation. THanks again for all of your help. Dman

The fuel pump actuator is a single lobe on the camshaft, which turns at half the speed of the crankshaft. If your engine is turning 1000 rpm, for example, your pump is squirting fuel in the direction of the carb 500 times per minute. Kinda makes you wonder how a little piece of rubber can last so many years, doesn't it?

This 1951 M-37 is going to be a driver.
Considering an electric fuel pump. Thinking about leaving the mechanical fuel pump on for looks, but by-passing it. Or, would it be better to use a "block off" and eliminate the stock pump altogether?
Is there a civilian part number, and where would be a good location to hide it.
