Re: ROLL CALL-WHERE IS EVERYONE?

Post by T. Highway »

Hello Everyone,

The last 45 days has been a wild ride through life.

Back story:
I have been taking care of my 90 year old mother at her Condo just down the road from our house for the several years. My mothers memory loss has been getting a little worse every week and I made the decision to move her into a Memory care unit on St Patrick's Day. I was able to secure a room, she was able to pass the mobility tests, I moved familiar furnishings in so that the room would feel like home and not be a big system shock to her.

On the morning of St Patrick's Day I went to breakfast with some of the guys from the local repeater /radio clubs and about 30 minutes before I was due to arrive at moms I got a call from her caregiver, Mom didn't seem to be acting normal. I zipped over there and found that she had started the day completely normal and was not able to transfer to her wheelchair for some reason. I was talking with my mom for about 5 minutes to see what may be wrong (Good BP, Blood sugar count a bit high but not a concern, pulse was normal) when she had a stroke and went limp.

Rescue arrived and took her to the ER, at the hospital they gave mom TPA and ran the usual tests. Two days passed and most of the right side paralysis was already gone but you could see that she was noticeably weakened. The third day it was determined that she would need 2 - 3 weeks of rehab prior to being transferred to the Memory care unit. The Physical Therapist was in her hospital room on the third day going over the details when mom had several more TIAs.

This all pointed to a brain bleeds that they could do nothing for.

I moved my mom back to her home and Hospice took over.

Long story but I need to get this off my chest.

Mother passed away on April 5th and was laid to rest on April 12th.

So sorry to hear Bert. Went through something similar with my Dad. Moved him to a Masonic home into his own apartment, he was mobile and quite well enough to take care of himself at 91. within 3 months he had gone downhill and we had to move him to an assisted living section of the home and then three more months another move to the next level of assisted living. Within a year after moving in he was gone. You do all you can do but none of us are immortal. It is a sad fact of life. She is in a much better place now.

Sorry to hear that.

Being the youngest of three brothers I have already lost my Mom and Dad a number of years ago. My oldest Brother is 71.

My Father in-law is 78 and is having issues. He wrecked his pickup truck a few weeks ago, his fault. We can see his decline but he won't do anything to let us get his stuff taken care of. He has a number of old cars that will have to be dealt with but won't listen. It's going to be a mess. Makes me take note to not let that happen to me unless something sudden takes place.

I feel for you Bert...
Lost my Mum nigh on 20 years ago to cancer, she only made a shade under 50 years old and it's a very hard thing to go through but you will get through it with the help of Family and Friends.
Folks you know and love are only ever truly lost of they are forgotten, your Mum will ALWAYS be with you by your side, in your heart and in your memories........
