Questions on engine swap

Post by superbee70 »

Looking for feedback and insight.

years ago, pre-internet I did a 318 NP435 swap. Motor mounts were made py cutting up the donor truck crossmember. The ends with the mounts were installed in the C of the M37 frame and bolted in. Engine was moved forward enough to allow the transfer case to remain in existing spot. This necessitated the donor truck radiator moving forward, almost even with the grille. used headers from something. Seemed to work great.

Working on 360 NP435 swap now. Using same method to mount but the engine seems to sit much higher in the frame than I remember. Are the 360/318 mounts different? Specifically the metal brackets that mount to the block? Unfortunately I don't have any pics of my previous truck.

Looking for thoughts, pics, ideas of people who have done similar swaps.

Yes. The passenger side block ears are cast I believe further forward on the 360 vs the 318.

You can check out my 318/NP435 install at: http://m37.wawii.com/

VPW now sells the mounts to do what I did.
Thanks,
Will

I'm not using the existing mounts. I've outboarded the passenger spring and lost that mount (trans). I'll make a separate trans mount.

this is what I'm using for motor mounts. Still need some trimming but free. Think I have everything in the right spot now. Measured and the pass side bracket is shorter than the drivers. Will probably add a spacer or cut the drivers to make equal, space is getting tight for manifold on pass side.
