M37 Bikini top

Post by ZGjethro »

I was shopping around on the Beechwood canvas site, and I saw the vinyl bikini tops for the M37 offered there. The price is pretty steep for a top with no window or zippers, but they make it custom for you. That is why it is so expensive, around $450. I would really like one for summer driving. Does anyone here have one, or know of other options or makers?

It's nothing fancy, but I made my own from Duck Cloth and a fiberglass snow pole.

$450 for the smaller size top and $375 (give or take) for the larger top. Why is less more? Don't they fab each one anyway?

GOOD MORNING,
I have also thought about a bikini top for my M, but like you, thought the price was too high. I did have a TONNEAU Cover made for the cockpit with a zipper down the middle. It works great, keeps the rain and dust out; riding by myself. open the drivers side, got a passanger or two take it off. I had it made by a local marine canvas shop, I bought the sunbrella, they pattened it, and sewed it up. Cost me $300. Seem like the bikni top would be easier to make. If you find a place to make up a bikini top at a reasonabe price let me know. THANKS BOB

Hi Bob,
I also want a tonneau, and just like you describe. Do you have any pictures of it?
Thanks,
Tim

hello there. I know that my post here is too late and I do apologize for that. The topic here caught my attention. Anyway, my uncle was looking for a bikini tops last month for his m37 and he asked help from me. We looked at eBay and amazon and so far, we saw one available for his truck. He still thinks if he will buy it or not. Anyway, $450 is just a average price for it because other bikini tops costs $500 to $650.

I checked Beachwood today (13-Sept-2012) and bikini tops are $199. I was looking for a windshield cover (Beachwood is the only company that makes one) and decided to check.

Beachwood is not known for their bargain prices, but sometimes they are the only source. :(

I'd be interested in one of those tonneau covers also, if anybody is making them.

Old thread, I know, but a tonneau cover would be cool.

I had my toneau cover made by a local (BROOKLYN, NY) marine canvas guy. He had to patten the cockpit then sew up the cover. Its made from sunbrella; works great. I would be willing to send it out, this winter, so it could be copied. if anyones interested. I had it made a couple of years ago and I think it cost me about $300. It might be cheaper to copy it???
PM ME IF INTERESTED. Sorry no pics as I cant get my OLD computer to accept the smart cards from cameras.

I saw this picture, my wife has a huge sewing machine my mother gave us, if I can get the right material I think I can just make it and put the grommets in with the tool for that. I am painting my newly arrived truck so I haven't even put the soft top on it yet, I don't know how these clip on around the front, have to see about that to add to the top.

Stock top has a dowel (I think?) in the front roll, it slides through the channel just above the windscreen. The reason I think it's a dowel is the flexibility of it, it might be all canvas? The sides have sturdy aluminum brackets riveted and covered by the canvas top, my truck came a similar version, but made out of nygahyde (sp), grommets and bungee cords.
BTW, This version looks very sharp!

Stock top has a rope sewn into it that slides into the “rope channel” on the top of the windshield frame. As I recall it’s a 5/16 or so diameter rope, but whatever you use must work well with the fabric. Original mil spec. canvas is pretty thick. If you are gonna use “sunbrella”(tm) or something similar, it is thinner and you will need a larger diameter rope to be a snug fit in the rope channel.
