R2 crash truck

Post by tomor13 »

I have an R2 crash truck that I will be putting back on the road. Re-power to a 4BT with a nv4500. Rest of drive train stock but swap gears to 4.89. I'd like to put pto to the 4500. Is there a way. Here's some pic.

Welcome to the Forum!

Very nice Crash Truck. How long have you had it? Do you have any pictures of the interior? I've always wanted to see the inside of one of those trucks.

Very nice crash truck. Did you buy it in that condition or have you been restoring it. Please post more pictures of it inside and out. :D

Not that color when I picked her up. Put primer on to stop pretty police from bugging me. If you have ever been to Lawrence KS you'd know. I had for sale up till this week. No takers so I'm starting to put on road. Found rims at vintage power wagons that allow tubeless tires. 17x8 in size. Then need a 4bt with a nv4500 transmission.Want to keep outside stock but green. Inside will be camper.

I'm using a 4bt and a Eaton Fuller FS4205A 5 Speed Manual Transmission from a Freightliner bread truck in mine.

Been looking for a 4bt. Hard to find around here. I would have thought with Kansas city so close. There would be lots to find.

Nice truck.

It's your truck and by all means do as you wish to it. That being said R2 crash trucks are not a dime a dozen like the M37 cargo is. They are on the rare side of the collection. You might want to consider that if you make all the changes to the vehicle that you want the value of the truck will drop on the collectors market. IMHO rare trucks should be left alone or restored to original.

I'm not putting down your ideas as I said it's your truck and please do to it as you wish. Just passing on some food for thought.

Not the only time I've heard food truck. I thought put a freezer in it and sell ice cream at the MVPA show in Topeka this June. Keeping it original would be nice but, would require a budget far in excess of what I have. Keep the outside as close as possible. Drive around country as a living museum piece. Not a looks good in my garage piece. Take truck to Alaska and run over furry woodland creatures on way to Prudhoe bay. The best camping trip ever.

I think it was your for sale add or Facebook friends, not an article.
